"L'ami fondamental". Projection of Euzhan Palcy's rarely-seen 2006 documentary that presents the 65-year friendship between Léopold Sédar Senghor and Aimé Césaire in their last filmed interview together, in 1993 (18 minutes).

"Global Césaire", panel discussion of Césaire's legacy, with Professors Ghelawdewos Araia and Milagros Ricourt (Lehman), Prof. Françoise Naudillon (Concordia) and Prof. Nick Nesbitt (Princeton)

Readings of passages of Césaire.
Remarks by special guest Nimrod (novelist, poet, essayist)

A centennial celebration of the seminal Martinican poet and statesman, Aimé Césaire (1913-2008).

  • "Césaire et la mémoire" (roundtable chaired by Thomas Spear), with Sylvie Kandé, Françoise Naudillon, Lucie Paul and Ronnie Scharfman.
  • Performance of Césaire's texts by Carole Alexis, Jean-Dany Joachim and Sylvie Kandé.
  • "Césaire et Haïti" (roundtable chaired by Régine Joseph), with J. Michael Dash, Wilson Décembre, Frantz Leconte, Jasmine Narcisse and Étienne Télémaque.
  • "Césaire, l'océanique", keynote address (in French) by the poet, novelist and essayist, Nimrod.
