In 2009, three-Michelin-star French chef Michel Bras decides to hand over his legendary restaurant to his son Sébastien. Having worked with his father for 15 years, Sébastien is ready. But it’s not easy to take over the family business when your father is a world-renowned master
in his field. Filmed in the gorgeous Aubrac region in the South of France, home to the Bras family for generations, Step Up to the Plate reveals the secrets behind their extraordinary dishes while observing one of the most closely watched transitions in the world of haute cuisine.
“For those foodies who can’t make the pilgrimage (or dole out the cash) to visit Michel Bras’ legendary hotel-restaurant in the remote plains of Laguiole, France, director Paul Lacoste’s smart and mouthwatering documentary, Step Up to the Plate offers a captivating
cinematic alternative." - THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
About the director:
French filmmaker Paul Lacoste created and directed the unique television documentary series, L’Invention de la cuisine. This extraordinary project consists of impressionistic, meditative portraits of three-star chefs Olivier Roellinger, Michel Troisgros,
Pascal Barbot, Alain Passard, Gerald Passedat, Nadia Santini, Pierre Gagnaire, Michel Guerard and, of course, Michel Bras. Step Up to the Plate, Lacoste’s first documentary feature, premiered at the 2012 Berlinale and opened in France in March.
