Does any one know who he is?

Saving a life when you're a civilian, is a beer what they would give in France? Give it up. Go for a bottle of La Grande Dame. :)

Why do you suppose that is?

On NBC News, Brian Williams said that the man jumped into a taxi and left immediately. I find that really odd. Why wouldn't he wait for a blanket, let alone to be examined after dropping into 48 degree water?

This man is a hero. I hope he can come forward and be recognized.

I agree with you, Robert. It should be champagne. Now, he might not be French at all. But it's champagne all the same! I heard his name was Julien. Did you hear that too?

Haven't heard anything yet, Fabrice but tomorrow I should see a friend from the News and will ask him if he's heard anything.

If your News friend is a reporter, if he hears anything solid, surely he'll get it in online/in the paper. Not infrequently, good Samaritans don't hang around to be thanked. We could posit that (regardless of nationality) the personality type wants only to do the good deed. Or, that someone fears publicity can have unexpected repercussions: I recall a good Samaritan who subsequently committed a fairly minor crime -- and that was in the paper, too. Sometimes the good Samaritan was supposed to be -- somewhere else -- at the time he was doing his good deed.... Just a few of the possible reasons for shyness....

On a retrouve notre French Hero who saved the Little Girl and her Dad from drowning in the East River.

His name:

Julien Duret, age de 29 ans. Il est ingenieur de profession et habite a Lyon en France.

Julien etait en vacances a New York avec sa petite amie. Il se promenait a South Street Sea Port dans le Lower Manhattan, quand il a vu la petite fille tomber dans la East River.

Sans penser, Julien s'est jete a l'eau pour sauver la petite fille et le pere de la petite fille. Il parait qu'il n'a jamais fait de chose pareil dans sa vie. (source: rschapiro@nydailynews.com)
