Dear Parents,

I am trying to start a French Dual Language Program at PS 20, The Clinton Hill School that serves the Clinton Hill and Fort Greene neighborhoods in Brooklyn (District 13). The idea is to get the program underway in Sept 2013 at the Kindergarten level. I've already done some initial research to get the ball rolling; I had some conversations with the French Embassy, PS 20, and made contact with the Office of English Language Learners at the DOE. I also talked with another parent who started a dual language program at PS 110 in Greenpoint to get an idea of what to expect when initiating such a project.

For those of you who are not familiar with dual language programs that are gaining popularity in New York City schools, please take a look at the French Dual Language Program at PS 58 in Carroll Gardens. This is the model that we would like to emulate.

At the moment, I need to access the need and interest among parents in the zone and district. If you have children that will be entering Kindergarten in 2013, or in the coming years, and you have an interest in seeing this program at PS 20, please contact me by email or phone so I can put you on our list of interested parents. Your child does not need to be from a Francophone family nor does he/she need to have been at a French immersion preschool in order to participate. The idea behind a dual language program is to have 50% of the children to be French-fluent, the other 50% are English dominant. 

I'm also looking to form a group of core parents to help me with the work involved in putting this together. Please contact me if you'd like to help.
