GOAL OF THE GROUP
The group Francophone Literature will offer a monthly suggestion of works of literature from North Africa, West Africa, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, Québec, Louisiana and Acadia. The goal is to provide exposure for both works in French, as well as works in translation. In the days to come, I will "review" a couple of books, and I invite you to do the same. The prolific production of literature in French makes keeping up with it difficult, so I encourage you to share input regarding books that you recently have discovered (or re-discovered)!

A READING GROUP
In addition, I hope to organize a reading group in a charming part of New York City once every few months so that we may discuss a work both for its aesthetic qualities, as well as look at the novel or poem in a socio-political context. In the next few weeks, I will offer a suggestion of a novel, as well as information regarding where you may obtain it. It is not always easy to find these books!

POSTING EVENTS
Please send events that involve writers and playwrights and I will post them in an event section.

Il s'agit d'un festival de poésie/littérature avec des artistes d'Europe et d'Amérique. Ca se passera à L'invisible Dog, à Brooklyn; au Cornelia Street Café, et au Bowery Poetry Club. Du 27 au 29 mai. PALESTINE, par Hubert Haddad

Résumé du livre

Quelque part en Cisjordanie, entre la Ligne verte et la 'ceinture de sécurité', une patrouille israélienne est assaillie par un commando palestinien. Un soldat tombe sous le feu, un autre est enlevé par le commando bientôt en pleine déroute... Blessé, sous le choc, l'otage perd tout repère, en oublie son nom. C'est, pour lui, la traversée du miroir. Seul survivant, sans papiers, en vêtements civils et keffieh, le jeune homme est recueilli, soigné puis adopté par deux Palestiniennes. Il sera désormais Nessim, frère de Falastìn, étudiante anorexique, et fils d'Asmahane, veuve aveugle d'un responsable politique abattu dans une embuscade. C'est ainsi que Nessim découvre et subit les souffrances et tensions d'une Cisjordanie occupée...

J'avais pensé proposer une rencontre dans un lieu à Manhattan. Rencontre littéraire autour de mon dernier roman en particulier, et présentation des livres précédents, avec discussion autour de l'écriture, le "travail" de l'écrivain, les questions relatives à l'édition, etc, échanges. Tous est possible. Pourquoi pas au Bubble lounge ?
