I had the opportunity to go to Toronto, Canada where I met other OSEF volunteers from Canada and France to see how the program operates. I was able to observe the arrival of the French students, their three day orientation and their departure to the western provinces. All went smoothly due to the number of volunteers accompanying the students, and the number of volunteers stationed in Toronto. Volunteers also play an important role in the matching process. Several days are spent matching the…

On Friday, when I locked my classroom door, I completed 26 years of teaching French in Chappaqua, New York. Although Spanish is still more popular (and I teach that as well), we have a large group of French students who begin at age 10. Most of them continue their studies through high school and beyond.
I am passionate about all things French. I am American, but was educated at the Lycée Français. I have lived and studied in France and Switzerland.
What interests me most on this page…

Amuse-Bouche No. 9 Partying With Intellectuals
by Julia Frey
What does
un intello do for fun?
Every year, Jean-Pierre and Florence (Jumpy and Flo-Flo to intimates) have a fancy
pique-nique for their anniversary. And every year it rains.
Jumpy’s whimsical invitation asks guests to bring totally imaginary dishes like
terrine de kâ à la tetragone.
Quoi? A
kâ (kaon), as only a serious Scrabble player would know,…

Juliette Longuet habite à NYC depuis six ans.

This guy is a real genius. Why?
Because, I dont understand how he can come up with so many hysterical ideas
all the time, its unbelievable.
You all know him I am sure and if you dont, run to your TV set and watch him
on HBO.
Yes exactly, I name Larry David.
Seinfeld was his shtick (yidish word for gimmick) but today
on HBO, Larry David is King David, the king of comedy.
"Curb your enthusiasm" is addicting. When you stop laughing,
you dont want to stop…

Phoenix played last night at Terminal 5 and the night before at Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Both venues were full packed. They gathered mostly Americans who showed to be already big fans of the fourth record as they already knew the lyrics of Wolgang, Amadeus. I couldn't believe all this people in their 30 having fun as if it was an American band ! Actually nationality is less and less a criteria to examine work. Phoenix writes his…

Amuse-Bouche No. 8: Pardon My French
by Julia Frey
As Anne and Sylvie arrive for dinner, Auguste, recovering from a bad cold, greets them with exquisite
politesse: “
Pardonnez-moi si je ne vous baise pas, mais j’ai un rhume” (Forgive me if I don’t f**k you, but I have a cold).
Quoi? This provokes a generalized
fou rire (uncontrollable laughter). Although my Dutch husband speaks French fluently—well enough to teach his university…
