Spend Bastille Week, with the French chanteuse and songstress Floanne. This year she will be presenting her solo musical play «Edith Piaf Alive,» returning for the third time at Joe’s Pub on Thursday, July 11 at 7:30PM. In this theatrical performance that mixes song and acting, she will offer a personal look to the legendary French singer, embodying her poignant music and Bohemian lifestyle. Floanne invites her muse to share the stage and speak for herself, 50 years after her tragic passing at age 47. Born on a French farm, Floanne transports you to another time and place, in a medley of vintage tunes with a modern twist —with that husky, mournful voice so popular in the 1940’ and 50’s. Down to earth, she infuses her dramatic evocation of the «Little Sparrow» with contemporary energy, rhythm and sensuality. «Everyone feels connected to the music of Edith Piaf,» says Floanne, 30, who was at first afraid to tackle her story. The director Alice Jankell, served as associate artistic director of the Williamstown Theater Festival, alongside the band including musical director by Ian Macdonald on piano, with Ray Parker on bass and Will Holshouser on accordion.

Floanne has performed her solo shows at Symphony Space, the Metropolitan Room and the New York Botanical Gardens. She has been called «The French Madonna» by Timeout NY. She trains as a nightclub chanteuse under the mentorship of Marilyn Maye, and as a coloratura soprano with April Evans. She has also appeared at the Shrine Auditorium with Liz Callaway, Debbie Gravitte and Jody Watley in «Loving the Silent Tears.» She works as an actress and director under the name Flo Ankah.
