The Garnier girls are fraternal twins, alike in spirit through not identical in looks. Ethereal blonde Delphine (Deneuve) is a dance instructor and redheaded Solange (Dorléac) a music teacher. The sisters, while far from unhappy in their port town of Rochefort, pine after dreams of romantic love and musical careers, and hope to someday go to Paris to fulfill their ambitions.
