Back by popular demand, this fall we're offering our fun and innovative advanced French class in which students watch and discuss French-language movies.

Watching original-language movies is a great way to learn colloquial French and to build your comprehension and speaking. Every week, we'll discuss the plots and the cultural context, and the instructor (Maurice, from Paris) will align the week's discussion with the review of grammar, vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.

The movies will be a mix of classic and contemporary films (and will be different from the ones discussed in our summer class).

Our classes meet at the following times:

Manhattan

Wednesdays 7:30-8:45 pm, Sept 26 – Dec 5
Thursdays 1:30-2:30 pm, Sept 27 – Dec 6

Brooklyn

Mondays 7:30-8:45pm, Sept 24- Dec 3

We're also excited to announce our new Arabic for Beginners class -- taught by Egyptian native Mohamed Badr, who founded the Arabic language programs at CUNY and Yeshiva.

This course is designed for beginner students or those who have little background in Arabic. You will learn to read and write as well as pronounce and recognize the Arabic alphabet of Modern Standard Arabic. It is an introduction to the language including some common phrases, greetings and basic vocabulary as well as aspects of Arab culture.

In this course you will learn the structures and skills necessary to:

  • write and pronounce the Arabic alphabet
  • meet and greet people and make small talk
  • talk about yourself (nationality, profession, likes and dislikes, and your family)
  • tell time and discuss days and dates in Arabic
  • describe people, things, and mental and physical states
  • order in a restaurant and discuss prices and preferences in a shop

Because Arabic is more challenging for English speakers than the Romance languages we offer, including the learning of new sounds and a new way of writing, this class will meet twice as many times as our regular courses -- twice a week for 10 weeks, for a total of 20 hours. The class will meet at out Manhattan location (12 W19th st between 5th and 6th Avenue) Mondays and Fridays from 3 to 4 pm, Oct 12 to Dec 21.

Please visit out our website for more info on all our French, Spanish, Italian and Arabic classes.

We look forward to seeing you!
