On July 11th, Coucou Brooklyn, a French language and cultural center located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, will proudly open its doors and launch its presence as a vibrant community for francophones and Francophiles. Located at 38 Marcy Avenue in Williamsburg, the school will offer lively classes taught by native speakers, while events at the cultural center will try to bridge traditional and contemporary French culture and highlight their relevance to life in New York City.

Founded by Léa and Marianne Perret, two cousins from Toulouse and Paris, Coucou Brooklyn is the destination for anyone who wants to learn and practice French, or take part in engaging cultural events. Based on the notion that one should not separate the learning of a foreign language from its inherent culture, Coucou Brooklyn offers group classes and private lessons that cater to students of all levels. The classes bring the French language to life, focusing on culturally-savvy vocabulary and thorough grammar lessons. Groups classes are for a maximum of 10 people to ensure that each students gets enough personal attention. Themed workshops, film screenings, art shows, wine tastings, concerts, and more aim to bring people together through their mutual appreciation for French language and culture.

Co-founder Léa Perret explains that the space “will help New Yorkers connect with their inner French, explore the beauty of speaking French and encounter the culture in their own neighborhood, and maybe one day in France…The students need meaningful opportunities to speak the language so they can build a proper foundation and become truly fluent".

A cozy lounge that provides a casual setting for students to chat over coffee, a library filled to the brim with French books and DVD's, and a green backyard are what make Coucou Brooklyn an attractive cultural hub. Additionally, Coucou Brooklyn will offer translation services for a variety of media.

Coucou Brooklyn will kick off its opening with a launch party on July 11th. Food will be provided by Angelo Romano of The Pines, wine will be curated by Zev Rovine Selections, and DJ Jee Day (Run Roc / DFA / Beats in Space) will take care of the music. Coucou’s partnership with these neighborhood favorites symbolizes its strong relationship with Brooklyn and commitment to weaving French language and culture into the city’s fabric.
