NEW YORK - Thousands of people are expected on July 16 and 17, 2011 at the Novotel Hotel for the first Bastille Festival in Times Square.

The event will give New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds the best of the French-speaking world through a broad variety of multi-cultural exhibitors, musical performances, wine education, culinary presentations, French pétanque, and activities for kids.

This year’s programming will feature the performances of ”French Madonna” Floanne Ankah, unique paper sculptures from artist Pierre-Henry Guérard and more than thirty other artists.

“We are very proud to celebrate French culture with New Yorkers in a place as symbolic as Times Square, says Enrique Gonzalez, founder of the French Culture Nights’ events, the organizer of the festival. Now we can really say that the French have conquered the crossroads of the world!”

Bastille Festival is named after the Parisian prison of La Bastille, whose storming by French revolutionaries on July 14, 1789 marks the French “Independence Day”. French communities around the world celebrate that day.

The event is organized by the French Culture Nights, a monthly social event with a cultural twist that draws an average of 400 French culture lovers to elegant venues across Manhattan. Many of the artists present at the Bastille Festival have performed at the French Culture Nights over the past two years. Guests will enjoy the Novotel’s prefixed menu as our long-time sponsor Ricard will be delighting attendees with an “Apero” (French Happy Hour”) throughout the weekend.

The event is free for those who pre register online; $10 cover at the door. Event is free for children under the age of 13.
