Distributor GKids has acquired the U.S. rights for the Blue Spirit Animation / Be-Films co-production Le Tableau (The Painting), the acclaimed CG film from French director Jean-Francois Laguionie.
This week saw the death of two monuments of French cinema: Pierre Schoendoerffer, an Oscar-winning French filmmaker who was held prisoner in Indochina and chronicled the pain of war on screen and on the page, and Michel Duchaussoy, actor who played in three Chabrols and was the voice of Brando in The Godfather.
For the second year in a row, the Cannes Film Festival is opening with an American film: The festival has announced that Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom will kick off the annual cinephile gathering May 16.
